Brockmans Guide Service offers full-day guided smallmouth bass fishing trips on Oregon’s Umpqua River System during the summer season, typically June through mid-August, when river conditions are best for bass fishing. Its not uncommon to catch over 100 in a day.
These trips are well suited for families, kids, and anglers of all experience levels, providing steady action and a relaxed day on the water. Fishing is done from a drift boat, allowing us to cover productive water and focus on proven bass-holding structure along the river.
Trip locations and techniques are selected based on current water levels and conditions to provide the best experience possible on any given day. Whether you’re looking for a fun introduction to river fishing or a productive summer bass trip, the Umpqua offers an enjoyable and scenic setting.

Smallmouth bass are scrappy fighters that'll test your skills on light tackle. These bronzebacks average 2-3 pounds but can push 5+ in the Umpqua. Look for them around rocky structure, fallen trees, and deeper pools. They love clear, cool water and hit hard on small crankbaits, jigs, and soft plastics. Summer's prime time when they're most active. Anglers love 'em for their acrobatic jumps and strong runs. Pro tip: Try topwater lures at dawn and dusk for explosive strikes. The Umpqua's known for high numbers, so expect fast action. Whether you're after quantity or quality, smallies deliver both. They're also great eating if you want to keep a few for dinner. With potential 100-fish days, it's non-stop fun for all ages and skill levels. Just be ready for sore arms at day's end!
